Creating a Slideshow to Visualize Author's Use of

Similies and Metaphors

Before you begin this activity, complete the Pre-assessment on Similes and Metaphors.

As you read Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, use your sticky notes or bookmarker to flag the author's use of similies and metaphors to describe events.  Take six of these sentences and create a slideshow with photos from Flickr creative commons to further describe what the author is telling her readers.  An example is posted on this page from pages eleven and twelve of the book.  Follow the steps below.  Do not get ahead of yourself.  You must have your sentences and your photos before you begin your creation.  Remember to provide credit for your photos with their name, the name of the photo, and where you obtained the photo.  (Look a my example.)You may use either RockYou or PhotoPeach.  Rock You adds rock music as a standard with dozens of song options, but you can choose "no music".  There are also several options for the look of the slideshow.  You do not have to register to use RockYou, but you might consider registering so you can save as you go and get back to your work, otherwise you will need to start over if interrupted.  PhotoPeach is very user-friendly with simple directions. You can add background music, but you will need to register to create a show.
